Wedding Shower No. 1

Today I am sharing some photos from our first wedding shower. Two weekends ago was the unofficial start to our wedding season, and boy was it a fantastic start! My family and bridesmaids threw us an amazing shower to celebrate our impending wedding with our family and friends in the metro-Detroit area. Kevin is from the west side of Michigan (he grew up near Lake Michigan), and I am from the east side (I grew up in metro-Detroit), so we are lucky enough to be getting 2 showers, one on each side of the state. This was our metro-Detroit shower, held at Cherry Creak Golf & Banquet, and it was everything we imagined and more!

There were an abundance of things that made the day so special for both Kevin and myself; the effort put forth by our family and friends did not go unnoticed, nor did their attention to detail and handmade touches. Our friend from grad school made personalized cookies for the occasion; they were both beautiful and so tasty (and the talk of the dessert table!). She also made cookies for our engagement party, so it was so nice to have her be a part of the shower in this way again. My sister, Christina, who is my maid of honor too, hand-lettered the welcome sign and name cards for the tables, as well as put together all of the centerpieces and flowers around the room. Both Christina and my other sister, Stacy, my matron of honor, hosted the shower and made sure everything ran smoothly.

My entire bridal party helped set-up for the event and they did an amazing job. They also all helped assemble the favors; jars of local honey with honey dippers adorned with fabric toppers and little personalized event labels (thanks to Kevin and his photoshop skills). Plus, they put together a beautiful array of gift baskets as prizes during the games. Each basket had a theme and they were a big hit among our guests. I am so lucky to have each of these ladies by my side!

Our shower began at 11 am so that we could serve brunch (my favorite!) for our meal. I don’t know if it was because it was my first cheat meal in over 2 months or if the food was just that good, but everything served was phenomenal! The french toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, eggs, mini danishes, fruit, and yogurt parfaits were all divine! And what brunch wouldn’t be complete without mimosas? My wonderful mother allowed us to splurge and have a mimosa bar so all the ladies could enjoy tailored mimosas to their liking. I know I enjoyed my strawberry one!

In addition to the cookies by our friend, the dessert table was filled with lots of mini treats. I really wanted a bite of each of my favorite sweets, so a variety of tiny desserts was perfect! Plus, they did such a good job on the table, it was almost too pretty to eat. Almost!

For our game, we played “he said, she said” where guests filled out their guesses as to whether a statement in a list of statements would belong to Kevin or myself in our relationship. An example would be “I have a better sense of direction” or “I said I love you first.” At the end, we revealed who identified with each statement and there were lots of jokes and anecdotes about our answers too. It was a fun way for our family and friends to interact and learn a little about us too.

Guests also filled out an “advice for the bride and groom” card, which were so fun to read the next day. From hilarious answers to really good suggestions to sweet sentiments, we thoroughly enjoyed them and are happy to have a token of the day to take with us when we enter into our marriage.

I still feel so grateful that we were showered with so much love and support. And while it went by so quickly, I am glad we have photos to remember it all!

xo, Ray

P.S. we tie the knot in only 45 days!
